Site Hacked!

I just realized yesterday that my blog was hacked by some group. I don’t remember the name though. I don’t know when it was hacked but I was informed by Google via email yesterday night. Thanks Google!

I tried to log-in to the client area to open a support ticket but there was no account associated with my email. I frantically emailed my host via the official support email and found out someone (with my login credentials) changed the email associated with my account to my old Hotmail. I immediately thought of the security breach that happened earlier this month after I used TrueSwitch Hotmail.

In the state of panic, I login to ftp to check my files. Sure enough, all files were gone (apart from the index.php that the hackers placed) but luckily only ibnuasad.org was affected. The rest of my sites and database was untouched.

So I installed WordPress again and to my surprise, I could not login to the Admin Dasboard Panel. I checked my other sites and the same thing happened. I received a 503 Service Unavailable error upon login.

By this time, I can now login to the client area to submit a support ticket. It seems that the 503 error was a Server Side error. My web host replied:

Looks like there was an issue with that particular combination of Litespeed & PHP caused by a recent software update.

The affected software has been recompiled and your wordpress scripts should be working properly now.

Apart from some missing images, everything is back to normal. Luckily all my backups was on the cloud and this made recovery easier. If I hadn’t move my Image Gallery to the cloud (a few months ago), I would’ve lost years worth of irreplaceable photographs.

This shows how important backups are and always be prepared for attacks. I wasn’t sure it was an 0-Day exploit, session hijacking, or a lapse of judgement in my part but I’m glad everything was resolved within a day.

Always focus on giving valuable content and information to your users to make them feel comfortable. When your visitors trust you, then you can start promoting your affiliate links but don’t make it like a sales pitch as that will make your visitors feel that they are being forced to do something.

Clear, Simple and Clean Navigation

Provide an easy to use navigation menu or system so that everyone, including your young kids can navigate through the site easily. One of the most recommended type of navigation is using a drop-down menu. This part of web designing is essential because if your visitors are having a hard time navigating through your site, they will definitely leave your site.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted something new. Some updates:
- Studying Diploma in Computer Science, expected to graduate on the 1st quarter of 2012.
- Bought a new VX6 Lamborghini a few months ago.
- Attended Soft-Skills class sponsored by MDEC and currently attending Fundamentals of 2D Animation Using Toon Boom…also sponsored by MDEC.
- Stopped ghost-blogging, revenues are at an all time low but still enough for day to day expenses.

I’ll be publishing my portfolio over the course of the next few months and this means that I’ll be changing the blog’s theme.

My First Chitika Payment!

I’m Still Here!

Although I have not updated this blog for the past few months, I am still running my online business! I’ve recently acquired a few more domains and are now in the process of building some unique content.

For the past few months, nothing much happened. I ran my online business as usual, download tv shows, movies, go to the gym, etc. I’ve recently bought a new Asus eeePC 1000H Notebook…now I can go anywhere around the world and still be connected to the world wide web

I’ve just recently sold MMA-Publix.com to Mark from DP. The site was sold for $350. I’ve just recently bought the domain and added some content. At first I though I wanted to put some clickbank links but one of the DP members were interested in the site and I just sold it off.
