Rush Hour 3 (2007)

February 24, 2008

Rush Hour 3 - 2007So six years have passed since the successful Rush Hour 2, but the style of this new movie remains the same. So the two crime busing ‘heroes’ Chris Tucker & Jackie Chan are the crime-fighting partners following an assassination attempt on Chinese Ambassador Han (Tzi Ma) by a member of the Triad gang.

The movie is based in 2 locations America (LA) & France (Paris), and along the way they stumble upon an equal amount of clues and trouble, both of which culminate when they meet the gorgeous Noemie Lenoir known as Genevieve in the movie. She proves an integral piece to the puzzle however, literally revealing secrets with each layer of her “wardrobe”…

So let’s get onto the actors. Firstly Chris Tucker in this movie is true to himself portraying more of a comedian than anything else. The once raunchy, indefatigable comic who plays Carter of the LAPD appears really unenthusiastic; his target audience wold seem to be the children who will probably watch this film. In fact, he relies too heavily on the pitfalls in Rush Hour 3. There are a few instances in which Chris Tucker puts his “motor mouth” to good use though and we see glimpses of his former natural self, but the lasting impression is of him coming out with his somewhat “funny” lines in a safe manor whereas before he used to swing for the fences.

Jackie Chan remains a stunt man mainly, and a second actor. His stunt work and action sequences are now a necessary despite from the Carter-Lee banter, as opposed to once being vice versa. The backseat supporting performances range from the incredibly hot (French actress/model Lenoir) to the incredibly odd legendary director Roman Polanski, who will go unrecognized by most of those clamoring Rush Hour 3. He also plays a cameo role and pops up as an obnoxious French policeman.

I get the feeling that Rush Hour 3 seemed to have been produced for the $$$, and yet good box office ratings could still spawn a fourth movie. Whether the series mercilessly limps on or dies here who knows.

The CGI in this movie is not at its best but despite this I only noticed once or twice the CGI lacking. This movie could have been much better if they had not made it so predictable with the “cheap” humour that is so typical today. So if you were a fan of the 1st & 2nd movie don’t be so overly impressed with this movie.
